Chairman of the Executive Board of UNESCO Mohamed Sameh Amr participated on Monday in the opening session of a two-day international conference on Islamic civilization and Ibn Al-Haytham, representing Islamic member states.
The conference titled "Heritage of Ibn Al-Haytham and scientific advances of the Islamic Golden Age in today’s knowledge-based society" was attended by a number of experts, scientists and diplomats.
In his speech, Amr, who also serves as Egypt's Ambassador and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, said he was proud that UNESCO celebrated an Arab and Muslim scientist like Ibn Al-Haytham.
He also slammed criminal acts practiced by terrorist groups that named itself "Islamic" groups.
