The Fakhr Al Ajyal Championship for Falconry, organised by the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Centre, was open to the general public for participation on Sunday at Ruwayyah.
The championship witnessed the participation of many of the veterans of the sport and Bedouin elders who have had a rich tradition of training with falcons.
Seventy four-year-old Obaid bin Shinna is one such veteran falconer. Bin Shinna has been hunting with falcons since his childhood and distinctly remembers his father as well as his grandfather spending time hunting and training falcons in the desert.
"I come from an age and time when we just had our senses to rely on while training with falcons.”
