Antiquities Minister Mamdouh Damaty unveiled on Sunday that important documents dating back to the 18 and 19 BC were found at one of the warehouses of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) in Abbassiya.
Damaty, in a statement by the ministry, said the documents include messages exchanged between those who have been supervising the-then Egyptian Antiquities Organization, now replaced by the SCA, like Gaston Maspero, Jacques de Morgan and Pierre Lacau and some archeologists who were operating in Egypt at that time like Howard Carter.
They also include reports on the digging operations conducted during the 18 BC written in different languages as well as papers related to Gaberi and Fayyed families who were known at that time of trafficking in antiquities.
These are the oldest documents found in the history of the Antiquities Ministry.
The minister gave orders to carry these important papers to the Egyptian Antiquities Registration Center and start an immediate restoration process.
A committee was also formed to examine these important documents and archive them
