Dutch police arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of preparing a "terrorist offense", the Dutch national public prosecutor said on Friday.
The investigation into the suspect started following information from the AIVD, the General Intelligence and Security Service of the Netherlands. After the arrest, which took place on Wednesday, and the search of his home the police did not find weapons or concrete plans for attacks yet.
The man has the Moroccan nationality and stayed illegally at his family's home in Amsterdam. During the search of the house the police seized SIM cards, USB sticks, a notebook, a mobile phone and a tablet computer.
The public prosecutor stated that the suspicions against the man, including preparing "terrorist crimes" against police officers, should be investigated further. Therefore the national office of the public prosecutor brought the suspect before the magistrate in Rotterdam, who put him in custody for two weeks.
