Out To Sea? The Plastic Garbage Project, which aims at raising awareness about our overuse of plastic, will take place at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina next month.
Since empty milk cartons, shampoo bottles and even flip-flops have become long-term colonisers of our seas, Darb 1718 Contemporary Arts and Culture Centre was prompted to bring the international project, which originated in the Museum für Gestaltung Zürichin in 2012, to Egypt.
Out To Sea? is a unique educational journey layered with an environmental theme. It is composed of three main parts: mass cleanups, a series of workshops and the final exhibition.
The result? A walk-through exhibition made entirely from trash and string of environmentally-centered events, including workshops, concerts and a range of collaborations with environmental NGOs.
On 28 and 29 March, organisers are leading a cleanup in El-Anfousy beach. For the Cairo show, trash was gathered through cleanups in Marsa Alam, Alexandria and Dahab.
The Alexandria exhibition comes as a partnership between Darb 1718 and Agora, a local NGO.
