Pikachu is not supposed to be roaming Easter Island, but monsters from Pokemon Go have landed in the far-flung Chilean territory thanks to a geolocation glitch.
Chileans on the south Pacific island and in the remote southern region of Magallanes have discovered they are able to play the latest smartphone game sensation even though Chile is not among the several dozen countries where it has been released.
The application's geolocation software considers the two regions as part of Oceania, Chilean newspaper El Mercurio reported Friday.
Magallanes, a region of 170,000 people, sits at the southern tip of South America.
Easter Island, which is home to 6,000 people and the famed ancient statues of the Rapa Nui people, is located about 3,500 kilometers (2,200 miles) off the Chilean mainland.
