The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has opened three new mosques that can accommodate more than 1,000 worshippers in Al-Khor, Abu Sadri and Umm Al-Khaba as part of the ministry's plan to double the number of mosques to keep up with population growth in the country.
The new mosque in the city of Al Khor can accommodate 498 worshippers of whom 215 in the main hall, 250 in the mezzanine and 33 in the women's hall of the mosque which has been equipped to the necessary facilities for prayer performance.
The new mosque in Abu Sadri for furud prayers can accommodate 190 worshippers including 150 in the main hall and 40 in women's hall while the third mosque in Umm Al-Akhaba can accommodate 300 worshippers in the main hall and 66 in the women's hall. It has a library of Islamic books.
The three mosques have facilities such wudu (ablution) places, parking areas and residences of Imams and Muezzins. Requirements of people with special needs were also taken into consideration.
