His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Wednesday held a luncheon at Shuwaikh Palace for visiting primate of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch, Patriarch John X Yazigi and his accompanying delegation.
Sheikh Nasser delivered a statement, welcoming the "esteemed guest, His Beatitude Patriarch John X Yazigi of Antioch and All the East, on the occasion of his visit to the State of Kuwait." He stressed said that an aspired spirit of toleration is inevitable for social peace, for Muslims and Christians alike, in all communities worldwide.
He also extended "sincere congratulations for the election of His Grace Bishop Ghattas Hazim as Metropolitan of Baghdad, Kuwait and Dependencies." For his part, Patriarch John X Yazigi referred to his meeting earlier today with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, saying he was grateful for being on "the blessed soil" of Kuwait.
He also expressed pleasure that Kuwait has an Orthodx church, lauding the wide range of freedom of faith in the country. He also denounced the use of religion for dividng people anywhere.
