Marking the Laylat al Qadr occasion, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi Tuesday honored memorizers of the Holy Quran who took part in an international contest and another local one organized by the Awqaf Ministry.
Eleven contestants from Egypt and a number of other countries took part in the Quran Memorization competition.
Sisi also honored Ahmed Ibrahim Abdel Salam, the youngest Egyptian Quran memorizer with special needs in a bid to encourage all Quran memorizers in Egypt and worldwide.
The Quran memorizers were given certificates of appreciation and financial rewards that ranged from 100,000 to 10,000 pounds.
Laylat al Qadr, which translated in English as the Night of Decree, is in Islamic belief the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
It is one of the odd nights of the last 10 days of Ramadan and is better than 1000 months of worship. Muslims believe that on this night, the blessings and mercy of Allah is abundant, sins are forgiven, supplications are accepted, and that the annual decree is revealed to the angels who also descend to earth.
