He commended deep-rooted relations binding the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom, stressing joint commitment to step up efforts to combat terrorism and protect human rights.
Al-Faihani outlined NIHR-led role to promote human rights in Bahrain, highlighting its expanded prerogatives under the recent amendments which stipulated, especially, the right to conduct announced or unannounced prison visits and assume its duties in compliance with the The Paris Principles, which frame and guide the work of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs).
He pointed out the drive of the Qatari National Human Rights Institution which engages in a campaign of public media misinformation, in breach of the NHRIs standards, practices and professional standards.
The NIHR chairman affirmed that the countries which decided to sever ties with Qatar took into consideration human rights issues.
Bush commended the humanitarian role played by Bahrain’s national watchdog, expressing readiness to provide support in assuming its duties.
