The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has received a delegation from the US Congress on a visit to familiarize with Bahrain’s accomplishments in various fields.
The guests were received by NIHR’s Vice President Abdullah Al-Durazi, Head of Economic, Societal and Cultural Rights Committee Maria Khoury and Acting Secretary-General Dr. Khalifa Al-Fahdel.
Al-Durazi welcomed the delegation while praising the amicable Bahrain-US ties and briefed them about the Institution’s law, establishment and work strategy. He also touched on the field inspection visits to prisons and workers’ accommodations to find and solve problems, if any. He also informed the delegation about the Kingdom’s rights situation and the National Institution’s role according to its jurisdictions.
Dr. Al-Fadhel briefed the guests about the Kingdom’s achievements of ample freedoms and human rights respecting thanks to the considerable support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to human rights organisations including the National Institution for Human Rights.
Khoury briefed the delegation about the Insitution’s standing committees, work mechanisms and efforts in monitoring human rights issues with the various official and unofficial organizations as well as the consultative opinions received from the Shura Council and the Council of Representatives which the committees studied and offered suitable recommendations in regard thereof.
The visit itinerary included the guests’ tour of the Institution’s building, Training Centre, Library and the Complaints Office.
