Mali's President Ibrahim Boubakar Keita met with Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen in Jeddah on Thursday.
The Malian President and the OIC Secretary General exchanged views concerning bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The two sides addressed issues linked to social, economic and cultural development and security in the West African Sahel region, particularly in Mali.
The discussion focused on the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, reached through the "Algiers process", and the efforts to bring it into force. For his part, Secretary General Al-Othaimeen emphasized on the importance of installing interim authorities in Mali. He also stressed that the OIC, which contributed in an effective way to the return of peace in Mali since 2013, will continue its work as a guarantor of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali, in addition to being actively engaged in the work of the peace agreement monitoring committee and the work of the OIC Ministerial Contact Group on Mali.
