Russian FM, Arab League chief discuss Syrian settlement

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met in New York on Sunday with Arab League chief Nabil el Arabi to discuss Syrian settlement, the Russian news agency ITAR TASS reported.

"The sides exchanged views on the situation in a number of Middle East and North Africa countries with a focus on the necessity to build up collective efforts towards political and diplomatic settlement of the crises in the region," the Russian foreign ministry said.

"The sides discussed in particular practical tasks of resuming the Palestinian-Israeli dialogue with a key role of the Middle East Quartet of mediators and of measures to stop the domestic conflict in Syria," the ministry said.
