Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted on Friday that the Libyan cause is a priority for the Egyptian foreign policy in all Arab, regional and international contacts.
Shoukry was speaking at a meeting with the Libyan presidential council's chief, Fayez al-Sarraj, on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
He asserted that Cairo continues efforts to bring the Libyan leaders closer.
The meeting also tackled the latest developments in Libya, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu-Zeid.
Sarraj reviewed the outcome of his recent talks and contacts on the Libyan crisis at the regional and international levels, the spokesman said.
He appreciated Egypt's efforts to settle the Libyan crisis, citing Egypt's recent talks with Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar and other military strongmen to unify the Libyan national army.
The Egyptian foreign minister, for his part, posted Sarraj on the outcome of a recent meeting held in London on the Libyan crisis, in addition to another meeting with his counterparts of Tunisia and Algeria in New York.
