President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday received at the presidential palace European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos.
The visiting European official lauded the major role undertaken by Egypt at the Arab and Islamic levels for combating terrorism and illegal migration, said Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef.
He quoted the European commissioner as having said that the Egyptian policy in this regard serves stability and security in the Middle East and Mediterranean.
The visiting official also said that the European Union is supporting democratic transition in Egypt, according to the spokesman.
President Sisi also underlined the active role of the EU as one of the major players in the international arena at the political and economic levels, added the spokesman.
The president highlighted the importance of the developmental dimension in fighting illegal migration and terrorism, noting that fighting terrorism should not stop at military confrontations and security crackdown, added the spokesman.
The president also affirmed the need for concerted international efforts to fight terror in several countries in the region, including Libya.
He warned against the negative repercussions of Libya's deteriorating security conditions, not only on the Middle East, but on the security and stability of the Mediterranean region.
