Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, currently visiting Tokyo, held lengthy talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Thursday.
Talks touched on ways to push forward bilateral ties in different political, economic and cultural fields, he added.
Also, they exchanged views on the regional and international issues of common concern, Abu Zeid asserted.
For his part, Kishida said Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the Japanese government are looking forward to the expected visit by Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to the country early 2016, Abu Zeid said.
The Japanese government is ready to upgrade cooperation with Egypt to unprecedented levels, Kishida noted.
Shoukry expressed his country's appreciation for the Japanese keenness on fostering bilateral ties with Egypt in various domains during the coming period.
Kishida told Shoukry that Japan will continue its economic support of Egypt as part of the two countries' agreement to make a major leap in their relations, Abu Zeid said.
During the talks, the top diplomats agreed to strengthen cooperation and coordination to fight terror at the regional and international levels.
