President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Wednesday with Mexican Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu in Cairo.
During the meeting, Sisi offered condolences to the Mexican leadership and people over the death of Mexican tourists who were mistakenly killed in a shelling on their convoy in Wahat two days ago, presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said.
The two sides discussed steps taken by the Egyptian authorities to deal with the repercussions of the incident and provide the injured with needed medical care.
A committee was formed under caretaker prime minister Ibrahim Mahlab to identify reasons behind the incident and prepare a report in this regard.
Egypt is fully ready to cooperate with the Mexican side and provide it with the outcome of investigations into the incident, Sisi said.
He also promised to provide the injured Mexicans with all needed medical care till they are discharged from hospitals.
"We hope that the Mexican side would understand the critical stage Egypt was passing through, especially the anti-terror war," Sisi said.
"Egypt's servicemen are doing their best to face terrorist groups on the western border," he added.
Massieu, for her part, praised efforts exerted by the Egyptian leadership and authorities to unveil reasons behind the incident.
The phone call between Egyptian and Mexican leaders on Tuesday had a positive impact on the Mexican people, she said.
Massieu hailed also high-level medical care provided for the injured Mexican tourists in Egypt.
In the wee hours of Monday, a tourist group, including Mexican nationals, was mistakenly killed in a shelling by the Egyptian security forces.
