The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces will hold an an emergency meeting later Saturday under Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in the presence of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Defense Minister General Sedki Sobhi and Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazy and all council's members.
The council is expected to take urgent measures related to the decision of the President to impose a state of emergency in North Sinai and along all border areas of the country.
Sisi declared a state of emergency in the governorate for three months and a daily curfew from 5pm to 7am until further notice.
At least 31 soldiers were killed and dozens more were wounded by a car bomb that targeted a Sinai checkpoint near the border with the Gaza Strip yesterday.
