Emirati singer Hussein Al Jasmi has braced stormy weather to sing at the du World Music Festival in Winnipeg, Canada. Jasmi delved into a back catalogue of songs from the Gulf, along with tunes sung in Egyptian, Moroccan and Lebanese dialects to rapturous applause. Rain affected sound equipment, sparking fears that Jasmi could have suffered an electric shock. “I am with you all the time and will stay on stage until my set ends,” Jasmi told the audience. Jasmi was accompanied throughout by an orchestra led by Walid Fayed. Canada’s Du World Music Festival has brought together some of the biggest names in international music, including Andrea Bocelli and the Gypsy Kings.
