The film, by director Amr Salama and starring Hend Sabry, tells the story of an HIV positive woman trying to survive in Egyptian society . The Egyptian film Asmaa has won the golden prize in the Eastern Film Festival in Geneva, bringing the number of awards that the film has collected so far to 15. The film won an award for Best Arab Director in the New Horizons competition in the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival. Asmaa also won Best Arab Actor at the same festival, along with the Women Cinema Prize at a film festival in Belguim. Asmaa also won the People's Choice Award in the Fribourg Film Festival in Switzerland, three awards in the Peace Film Festival in Bollywood, an award for best Arabic Film in Muskat Film Festival in Oman, and a special appreciation award at Wahran Film Festival. The film stars Hend Sabry, Hany Adel, Maged El-Kedwany and is directed by Amr Salama. Sabry plays Asmaa, an HIV positive Egyptian woman facing the stigma associated with the disease.
