The third novel by Egyptian writer Mohamed Azab reflects on the biblical story of Rachel, the second wife of Jacob, for whom he toiled for fourteen years, eventually to lose her soon after marriage while giving birth to her second son, Benjamin. Azab continues his search for answers to the questions on the deeper meaning of life and the alternative paths of asceticism or luxury. In this novel, Rachel is the wholehearted desires in life that one works hard to gain - and then looses. Azab is a professor of English literature at Alexandria University and this is his third novel following his two earlier works also published by Al-Ain, Threads of Fate and Chance Unites Us.
