Abu Dhabi International Airport said on Monday it received around 1.9 million passengers in November, representing a 4.4 percent increase in airport traffic compared to the same month in 2015.
The airport said in a statement that its traffic figures show consistent growth throughout the year, with the number of passengers having increased by 5.3 percent from the previous year. More than 22 million travelers have used the airport so far during 2016.
Traffic to and from Saudi Arabia saw a large surge compared to the previous year, with a significant increase of 43.5 percent, it said.
Cargo services saw a growth of 1.3 percent in November compared to the same month last year, it added.
A project worth multi-billion dollars is underway to redevelop and expand Abu Dhabi International Airport through its new Midfield Terminal, designed to increase the overall capacity of the airport to more than 45 million passengers per year.
The Midfield Terminal is scheduled to open by December 2017.
In 2015, the hub welcomed 23 million passengers, a 17.2 percent year on year increase. The UAE's first airport Dubai International hosted in the same year 78 million passengers, retaining its position as the world's busiest airport for international travelers.
