Abu Dhabi has won the Destination of the Year award for the City category in the UK Travel Agents Choice Awards, which are voted for by readers of one of the country's top trade magazines, 'Selling Travel' and its partner, the leading online training provider, 'Travel Uni'.
Nabeel Zarouni, Country Manager UK, Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, TCA Abu Dhabi, said, "These awards carry special significance in the British travel industry because they are the only travel honours entirely nominated and voted for by travel retailers." He added, "This accolade comes as Abu Dhabi recorded in the first nine months of this year, a 25% increase on hotel guests from the UK, compared to the same period last year. The UK is currently our second largest overseas producer of hotel guests and we envisage building on this further in June when Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, begins daily services to Edinburgh." Designed to acknowledge travel industry star performers, the awards cover a broad span of trade categories. Sally Parker, Selling Travel Publisher, said, "Many congratulations to the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority which has been successful in these awards. Ours is an extremely competitive industry and to be acknowledged as a star performer by the retail trade is a great accolade." The award will be presented during the World Travel Market in London on the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority stand (ME300) by Martin Steady, Managing Director of BMI Publishing. A special Travel Agents Choice Awards supplement will be published as part of the December issue of Selling Travel, which will include more details on the winners and the award presentations.
