Air Canada has announced it is to extend seasonal non-stop service between London Heathrow and St. John’s, Newfoundland this summer, operating flights daily from until October 27th 2012, four weeks longer than originally scheduled. St. John’s is the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador with a growing population of nearly 200,000 and has seen high levels of commercial development over the past ten years, resulting from an oil-driven economic boom. “We are pleased to extend the only direct daily service to St. John’s from the UK,” said Robert Atkinson, general manager – sales UK, Ireland & Northern Europe. “St. John’s is situated on the spectacular Atlantic coastline and not only has great historical significance, but an emerging economic presence, making it increasingly popular for leisure and business customers alike.” Known as ‘North America’s oldest city’, St. John’s was founded in 1497 with the first permanent settlement in 1620, and is located on the Atlantic coast of the island of Newfoundland, Canada’s easternmost province. Air Canada’s Heathrow-St. John’s flight, AC823, departs London Heathrow daily at 13:00 and arrives at St. John’s at 15:10 local time the same day and is conveniently timed for connections to Deer Lake and Halifax. The return flight, AC822, departs St. John’s daily at 10:05 and arrives at London Heathrow at 06:35 the next day. The service is operated by Airbus A319 aircraft in a two-cabin configuration featuring 120 seats – 14 in Executive Class and 106 in Economy Class.
