Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal laid Monday during his working visit to Oran, the foundation stone for the construction of a connector road between the port of Oran and East-West highway.
Sellal urged the project’s managers to keep to completion deadline.
The implementation of this new road to connect the port of Oran to the motorway junction (26 km), through the first bypass, also includes viaducts and tunnels.
Once completed, it will create a second access to the port of Oran and mitigate, to a large extent, the pressure recorded on the existing network in the vicinity of the port, characterized in particular by HGV traffic.
Besides, the project is mainly meant to create an effective and alternative road to the Ravin Blanc road and the expressway which will reach, in 2020, 200% of highway saturation, technical data stated.
This operation is part of a larger program launched by the ministry of Public Works, meant to build penetrating highways, following the National Planning Scheme (SNAT) in order to relieve traffic congestion in major urban centers.
