American Airlines temporarily stopped flights in and out of several of its major US hubs Thursday due to a computer systems problem, officials said.
All of the major carrier's flights into Chicago's O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth and Miami airports were stopped "due to technical issues," company spokesman Casey Norton told AFP.
"We are working to fix it as quickly as possible," Norton said.
The US Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the stoppage affected outgoing flights as well.
"The airline requested that we hold departures at ORD, Miami and DFW only due to computer issues on their end. It should be lifted shortly," FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford told AFP.
Some reports said the stoppage would last until 2:30 pm Eastern time (1830 GMT), but Norton said he was unable to confirm a precise time.
