With its emerald waters to its white beaches and quaint avenues, model Shamita Singha enjoyed her break in this French getaway It was a July summer break that got model Shamita Singha, bags in tow, to head to Corsica, an island that she had wanted to visit since quite a while. "I went to Corsica with one of my best girlfriends. We flew from Paris to Ajaccio and had a blast of a time," she says. Getting about Since it's an island, most of the popular spots were along the coastline, beach towns mostly. Corsica is also a popular destination for sailing and cruising around. "Every major town around the coastline has a port, where private boats are moored and local ferries run to and fro for tourists. So all the spots are well connected by water as well as roadways. You can hire a car or use the ferries to get from town to town and beach to beach. We decided to use the ferries, as there is nothing better than feeling the crisp sea breeze blow in your face while you get to the next destination," she says. Island-hopping Once in Ajaccio, they stayed there for a couple of days lazing around on the beaches and moved to the next town called Calvi where there was a music festival going on. "Every year Calvi has a big music fest and the atmosphere was super energized. From Calvi we had the good fortune to jump on a private yacht with some friends and for the next three days we stayed in the yacht stopping at lots of different towns like St Floren, Bastia, Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio." At Bonifacio, they realised that the island of Sardinia was less than an hour away by ferry boat so they went there too. They found the beaches wider in Sardinia and the nightlife -very opulent. "From small quaint hotels that we were staying at in Corsica, we were now in sprawling resorts that led us to private beaches. Upmarket cafes, gourmet restaurants and flashy nightclubs is the theme in Porto Cervo," she says. Sunset party In Ajaccio, her most favourite spot to hang out was a little beach bar called Scudo Beach. "It served delicious pizzas and had a beach party going on all night where you could freely swim at night too," she says. In Porto Vecchio Shamita came upon a nightclub which was also one of the biggest nightclubs in Europe. "It has super music; you could dance here till the morning hour," she laughs. One of the most memorable spots was at Porto Cervo (Sardinia) at a destination called Phi Beach. "Just watching the sunset from there, sitting on the rocks was one of the best sights. What a spot for sunset parties," she recalls. From Porto Cervo in sardinia they also went to the islands of La Maddelna which, was a day trip. "It's a half-an-hour boat ride away and has a beautiful beach to spend the day in." She didn't really do the touristy thing and shop for souvenirs. "I think shopping is something you can skip in places like these, as most of your time is spent on the beaches swimming, snorkelling or on boat rides and the rest on eating and drinking; all the beach bars serve yummy cocktails!" she concludes.
