Hainan Airlines of China plans to resume flights to Egypt soon following a five-year hiatus.
Abu Maati Shaarawy, the director of the tourism office at the Egyptian Embassy in Beijing, said the Chinese airline has suspended its flights to Egypt since 2011.
Shaarawy was speaking to MENA on the sidelines of his participation in the China Outbound Travel & Tourism Market (COTTM 2016).
Hainan Airlines will operate three weekly flights from Beijing to Cairo as a first phase, he said.
He noted that contacts are underway with Air China, one of the major Chinese airlines, to resume flights to Egypt soon.
EgyptAir, meanwhile, is scheduled to operate two more flights from China to Egypt as of June, he added.
Shaarawy said a plan was developed to increase the number of Chinese tourists in Egypt to 200,000 in 2016.
