The General Administration for Customs announced Saturday that an attempt to smuggle a number of birds of prey from Iran via Doha port has been foiled.
Customs workers at Doha port were able to prevent entry of a shipment containing a number of Houbara bustards and falcons into the country, Administration said in a press statement, adding that the shipment has been seized and its owner has been referred to investigation.
The Public Affairs for Agriculture and Fish Resources (PAAFR) has been prohibiting, temporarily, importation of all types of birds, eggs, and chicks from Iran since 2011, in accordance with reports by World Health Organization (WHO) regarding Avian Influenza.
