Dubai Airports has announced the launch of a wide scale project which includes a cargo and logistic services station at the Dubai International Airport, with the goal of increasing its total capacity to 3.1-million tons by 2018. According to Emirates news agency (WAM), as part of Dubai Airports' $7.8bn Strategic Plan 2020 over the next few months, construction is set to begin increasing capacity by 25% to 1.5-million tons a year. Total annual cargo volumes across both airports are projected to rise from the 2.19-million tons recorded last year to 4.1-million tons by 2020. "Construction of the new facilities at Dubai International will take place in several stages to ensure the day-to-day working of the airport is not disrupted," said VP Development at Dubai Airports Jeff Gould.
