An EgyptAir flight reported missing between Paris and Cairo has crashed, French President Francois Hollande confirmed.
The Airbus A320 with 56 people on board disappeared from radar at 02:30 Cairo time, soon after leaving Greek airspace.
Hollande said he was keeping an open mind about the cause of the crash, the BBC reported.
"We will draw conclusions when we have the truth about what happened," he said.
"Whether it was an accident, or whether it was - and it's something that is on our minds - terrorism."
An official source at EgyptAir said that the nationalities of the passengers are as follow: 30 Egyptians, 15 French, two Iraqis and one Briton, Belgian, Kuwaiti, Saudi, Sudanese, Chadian, Portuguese, Algerian and Canadian.
The plane was en route from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport to Cairo International Airport when it vanished from radar 10 miles after entering the Egyptian air field.
Radar lost contact with the flight at 2:45 Cairo local time while it was at an altitude of 37,000 feet.
