The European Union on Tuesday voiced concern by the capturing of the Lithuanian fishing vessel 'Juros Vilkas' and its crew by the Russian border guards in the Barents Sea on September 18.
"The EU calls on Russia to respect its international obligations and to immediately release the vessel," Michael Mann, spokesman for EU High Representaive Catherine Ashton, said in a statement. "The EU also calls on Russia to refrain from any action in contravention of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea vis-أ -vis fishing vessels flying the flag of a Member State of the EU.
"The matter has been raised with the Russian Ambassador to the EU," Mann added.
