A leading authority on national image stated that Expo 2020 and other major events are the best way for the UAE to become more prominent across the world. Simon Anholt, speaking at the Host Cities summit in Dubai, said that it is through holding successful events, more than anything else, that will help the country achieve its goals. “If you look at the UAE it is the cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi that are better known than the country itself,” he said. “That will change over time as so much is being achieved here. Although tourism is a major factor in people around the world understanding what the UAE is about, it is holding successful events that is the key. Expo 2020 is a great example of something that can truly put the UAE on the world map. Make that a success and the influence will be very significant,” added Anholt. Host Cities, a two-day events industry summit also looked at the impact legacy major events can have on a country, an analysis of how best to broadcast events and a panel discussion on what a city must do to prepare infrastructure for a large event.
