The number of foreign tourist arrivals in India up to November 2012 shows an increase by 6% over the same period in 2011, government figures reveal, according to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) report Monday. During the period January to November 2012, 5.899 million tourists visited India compared to 5.572 million during the same period in 2011, the state news agency said. Similarly foreign exchange earnings from tourism in rupee terms up to November 2012 were US $15.5 Billion (Rs 839.38 Billion) with a growth of 22.1% over the same period in 2011. Foreign exchange earnings during 2011 were US $12.56 Billion (Rs 687.21 Billion).
