German carrier Lufthansa said on Sunday it was increasing capacity on its flights to Abu Dhabi from the end of October. The move comes as Lufthansa says it will no longer continue onwards to Muscat, Oman, giving full capacity of the aircraft to Abu Dhabi-Frankfurt passengers. The increase in flight capacity is Lufthansa's second upgrade within 12 months after introducing a daily service on the route last October, up from six weekly flights, the airline said in a statement. The decision to increase capacity came as a response to the traffic growth that is witnessed on the German-Abu Dhabi route. This year passenger traffic between Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi registered an increase by 14 percent compared with the same period last year. "Lufthansa is pleased to announce increased capacity on its Abu Dhabi - Frankfurt route, which reflects the growing demand from our customers in the Abu Dhabi region, in Germany and in the rest of Europe," said Peter Pollak, Lufthansa's general manager UAE and director Gulf and Iraq.Ahmed Al Haddabi, chief operating officer at Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), added: "We are delighted to see more services being offered to passengers at Abu Dhabi International Airport. At ADAC, we are working closely with various airlines to support their development initiatives that ultimately benefit our passengers and provide them with more choices."The airline currently flies to 211 destinations in 84 countries, among them 13 cities in the Middle East.
