Iceland saw an increase of foreign tourists' overnight stays in hotels by 19 percent in September, compared with the same period of previous year, figures showed on Thursday.
According to statistics issued by the Statistics Iceland, the total overnight stays in hotels in Iceland rose to 199,297 in September, from 167,097 in September 2013, increasing by 19 percent.
Meanwhile, the nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 83 percent of the total overnight stays in September, increasing by 26 percent compared with the figure in September 2013. At the same time, the overnight stays of Icelanders decreased by 5 percent.
The number of overnight stays from October 2013 to September 2014 was 2,246,836, increasing by 14 percent compared with the same period of previous year.
The nights spent by foreign tourists rose to 1,903,591 in the past 12 months from 1,643,718 nights of the previous year.
