Kerzner International has entered into agreement to bring its Atlantis resort brand to the Chinese resort of Sanya. Following a deal with Fosun International, Kerzner will develop the new water-themed resort at Haitang Bay, in the south of Hainan Island. Once open in 2016, it will become only the third Atlantis worldwide, following existing properties in the Bahamas and on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah. Spread over 62 hectares, the Atlantis Sanya will feature a large waterpark with slides, fresh and saltwater pools, lagoons and marine exhibits, including a dolphin area. It will also include approximately 1,300 hotel rooms, a range of F&B outlets, a spa, retail space and conference and banqueting facilities. “I am very excited to be bringing Atlantis to China,” said Kerzner’s chairman, Sol Kerzner. “I know this property will astonish and amaze guests – I have been working with the designers to come up with something that captures all the wonders of Atlantis, with its magnificent sense of discovery, whilst also introducing new experiences specifically for Sanya. I can’t wait to unveil this resort to the world.” New York-based Brennan Beer Gorman Architects (BBG), has been appointed to create Atlantis Sanya. Construction is scheduled to commence by the end of 2013 and be completed in 2016. Source: Travel Daily
