Chinese travelers are leaving major cities and scenic spots as the week-long National Day holiday wraps up, with traffic nationwide once again reaching record levels.
Most traffic around major cities is from outbound travelers on their way home, according to the road monitoring center under the Ministry of Transport (MOT) on Monday.
For the past five days, around 450 million Chinese hit the roads while 10.22 million passengers traveled by water for tourism or to visit family, according to the MOT.
The number of road travelers in the period was 4.5 percent more than a year ago.
Ten major expressways connecting major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai saw inbound traffic down by 9 percent on Sunday from previous day, according to the MOT.
The national holiday ends on Tuesday.
