Passenger traffic at Sharjah International Airport crossed the 600,000 mark for the third consecutive month, according to the May traffic report issued by Sharjah Airport Authority on Tuesday. Passenger traffic in May reached 611,129, an increase of 12.63 per cent, compared to 542,621 during the corresponding month in 2011. The airport recorded a total of 5,432 aircraft movements in May, up 5.41 per cent, compared to 5,153 in May 2011. It handled 40,005 tonnes of cargo compared to 39,001 tonnes in May 2011, up 2.57 per cent, in line with forecasts for moderately improved volumes during 2012. “Ensuring that the thousands of passengers that use the facility every month pass through smoothly and efficiently is one of the top priorities for Sharjah Airport Authority. The month of May witnessed a noticed growth in passenger traffic, flights and cargo, because of the start of summer and vacations season. We prepared very well to cope with the rush, by harnessing the potential and provide the best services and facilities for travelers to make travel easy and comfortable,” Sharjah Airport Authority director-general Ali Salim Al Midfa said.
