The figures on hotel occupancy confirm the decline in the Spanish tourism sector recorded in April, with 21.5 million overnight stays, a 4.8% drop from the same month in 2011. The data were released today by the country's statistical institute INE. The number of overnight stays decreased despite a 0.1% price drop. During the first quarter of 2012 overnight stays decreased by 2.1% compared with the same period the year before. The decline regards both foreign (-4.6%) and Spanish tourists (-5%). The number of days people stayed in a hotel also decreased, 0.9% on the year, with an average of three overnight stays and a turnover of 68.1 euros per tourist. (ANSAmed).
