Starwood Hotels & Resorts has become to the first hotel company to develop an app for Google Glass.
The new Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) app allows Google Glass wearers to view and book the company’s global portfolio of nearly 1,200 hotels, as well as reviewing their SPG account information.
“Being the first in the hospitality industry to introduce an app for Google Glass illustrates our larger strategy to be the industry-leading digital innovator,” said Clay Cowan, Starwood’s vice president of global digital.
“Starwood’s agility and scope has established our brands as early tech adopters, and we plan to maintain our lead with our innovative work in the digital space.”
The SPG app for Google Glass was designed and built by Starwood’s internal IT team. It offers a personalised interface, providing users with their SPG account information including the number of Starpoints and details of their past and upcoming stays.
It also offers built-in voice command search and geo location capabilities, and allows users to search for hotels by destination, airport code or nearby landmarks. It also allows guests to view and share photos of the hotel amenities, as well as booking a room.
