Director-General of Antiquities and Museums Corporation, Dr Abdul-Rahman Ali, has underscored that Sudan was one of the World's top 10 countries rich in tourism resources according to the World Tourism Organization.
He indicated to importance of giving more attention to restoration of monuments and specialized museums for promotion and enlighten people on Sudan's civilization.
Dr Abdul-Rahamn said, while he was giving a lecture about the Sudanese civilization characteristics at the National Museum, Wednesday evening, that the Corporation and as part of efforts to acquaint tourists and Sudanese people that Sudan is the origin of civilization , started establishment of museums in all States of Sudan to expose belongings and antiquities discovered by local and foreign missions.
He cited challenges facing antiquities which, he explained, represented in housing plans and absence of coordination between the government institutions in field of erection of infrastructures and gold mining.
The Director-General of Antiquities Corporation said Sudan had participated in international expositions and organized exhibitions to boost tourism and attract tourists to come to Sudan, reviewing scopes of cooperation between Sudan and a number of countries in fields of restoration of monuments to preserve Sudanese entity and humanitarian heritages .
He described preservation of Nubian heritage at Wadi Helfa Project as one of projects attracting tourists and maintaining sustainable development at the area , which constitutes Sudan's northern gate.
