The most attractive approach is by train from London St Pancras via Paris (where you change stations) to Figueres in Spain, home of the Salvador Dalí Theatre and Museum (pictured). But this is a long journey and does not allow you to travel onwards the same day by bus to Cadaqués. The French alternative is to fly on Ryanair from Stansted to Perpignan, take a bus to the station and a couple of trains to Llanca in Spain. It is unlikely you will coincide with one of the rare buses; a taxi will cost around €50-€60. For a cheaper, easier journey, fly to Girona in Spain – also on Ryanair. At present there are flights from Birmingham, Bournemouth and Manchester. From 25 March flights begin from Bristol, Doncaster, Luton, Stansted and Newcastle (with fares before Easter that look very good). From Girona airport you can take one of the frequent buses to Girona station, and then a train to Figueres. The bus station is adjacent to the railway station, and has direct buses to Roses and onwards to Cadaqués. The family-run three-star Hotel Playa Sol (00 34 972 258 100; playasol.com) is one of Spain's best small hotels, and offers some good off-season deals. Q. I am flying on Ryanair to Spain. Does the 'Advanced Passenger Information' rule still apply, and does online check-in take care of this? Neil Mulhern, Belfast AThe requirement to provide your name, date of birth, nationality and passport details to the airline before departure – known as API – is spreading across the globe, and will soon be the norm. Many airlines imply that if you fail to provide the information before reaching the airport, you will be barred from flying, though I have not heard of any cases of this happening. The advance check-in process on Ryanair, which you are obliged to follow, asks you for all the relevant information before youare able to print a boarding pass.
