The Women Explorer's club members who are back after their adventure trip to Ladakh are a spirited lot They love to have fun no matter what. Exploring different places, trekking and shopping they are living life to the fullest. The 17 women, mostly from Kochi, who are back after their adventure trip to Ladakh are a spirited lot. They are thankful to Viceregal Travels and Resorts Ltd's Women Explorers (WE) club for making the journey possible. "We were told that this is the first time that an all women group from South India is visiting Ladakh. The members got into the ice cold Zanskar river and did 15 km of river rafting through 5 major rapids. It was a thrilling experience," says Deepa Varma who is heading the WE division. Apart from river rafting the group did trekking and camel ride. WE club is the brainchild of Rani Bachani, vice-president of Viceregal Travels and Resorts Ltd, says Deepa. It was started in November 2010 with 75 members. "The membership is through invitation only. It is aimed at bringing women together to explore and expand their horizons," says Deepa. The idea is to gather a group of like-minded women who will travel together to interesting places within and outside India. About 40 women attended the first meeting. There is no member fee. Just a token amount of Rs 500 is collected from all the members. Within a short span of time the club could organise four trips and many more have been charted for the months to come. "We have had our members touring Vietnam and Cambodia, China and Ladakh. We are arranging the next trip to Rajasthan. The trips are not always adventurous. Some are just sightseeing trips while others are only for shopping. It depends on what the members want," says Deepa. WE club had organised an exclusive trip only for mothers and daughters to Vietnam. The trip to China was attended mostly by senior citizens. "When we announced the trip to China it was mostly senior citizens in the age group between 65 and 75 who showed interest. So it became an exclusive holiday for them," says Deepa.
