The Transport Ministry decided on Wednesday to cancel some railway lines due to low occupancy rates and weak profits coming from them.
In a statement, ministry spokesman Ahmed Ibrahim said the timetable of canceled services will be used to boost the other train lines of high occupancy.
The decision should have been taken years ago to save fuel and the use of staffers and locomotives, he added.
The cancelled train services are namely, Banha/Meet Ghamr, Aswan/High Dam, Faqous/Samaana, Rashid/Bosili, Wasta/Beni Suef and Abu Rish/High Dam.
