Newark - UPI

The Transportation Security Administration unveiled less revealing full-body scanners Friday at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. The first generation of scanners showed detailed images of the person being scanned, angering many airline passengers. The new ones have an image of a genderless human figure with yellow boxes showing areas that airport security personnel need to check with handheld detectors, the Daily Record of Morristown reported. The new system has been dubbed "Automatic Target Recognition." The images will be visible to both security agent and passenger instead of being visible only to an agent in another room. "This is improved privacy. It allows us to conduct our security properly and we don't have an individual reviewing a specific image," Donald Drummer, federal security director for the TSA at Newark, said. The system has already been installed at 40 airports. The TSA plans to bring it to a total of 78 airports across the country, with full installation at Newark this fall.
