The province of Ubon Ratchathani has opened the Car Free Day 2012 campaign, this morning to encourage people to leave behind their cars to help reduce global warming. Bikers in the province gathered in front of Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University to raise awareness regarding power conservation. Mr. Surapon Saipan, the governor of Ubon Ratchathani, launched the procession of bicycles in observance of Car Free Day 2012. The event was organized in cooperation with the Child and Youth Development and Innovation Center, the Ubon Ratchathani biking club, and an anti-drinking network. Car Free Day 2012 aims to increase awareness of environmental problems, reduce air pollution, and decrease global warming. It is also to support government policies regarding the reduction of power consumption, particularly from fuels. It also aims to promote the use of bicycles for traveling in daily life. Over 500 citizens joined in to bike a nine-kilometer route within the Muang district of Ubon Ratchathani province. From centerweb
