Israeli spy, Ilan Grapel
The Egyptian and the Israeli authorities have reached a final agreement, in regard to swap the Israeli spy, Ilan Grapel, holds American citizenship, with 25 Egyptian prisoners in Tel Aviv, including
three children.
Egyptian security sources said that the deal includes women prisoners, sentenced for political reasons, and others accused of planning bombing attacks with Palestinians in Israel.
The sources said that the swap process will be conducted within the coming two days, after the Israeli ministerial cabinet approves it, as it is considered the biggest swap deal between Egypt and Israel.
A statement issued by the Israeli Prime Minister office, Benjamin Netanyahu, has confirmed the agreement. “As a result of the Israeli, Egyptian and American efforts, Egypt has agreed to release Ilan Grapel.” Said in the statement.
However the statement has denied that, Grapel is a spy, and confirmed that Israel will release 25 Egyptian prisoners, including three children’s, between 12 to 14 of age.
The security expert, General Sameh Seif El-Yazal, president of El-Gomhuria Center for Security Studies, said that the swap agreement between Egypt and Israel includes confidential information that can’t be released the meantime.
Saif Al-Yazal said in a telephone call with the Egyptian television that the “ the military council of the armed forces, and the Egyptian intelligence , have insisted during the talks with the Israelis and Americans on specific conditions related to Egypt’s security, and they were agreed on, and that was the reason why the agreement was delayed.” He considers the agreement as a big achievement and as a new accomplishment by the Egyptian intelligence.
The American foreign Minister, Hillary Clinton, said last week during her visit to Libya: “the United State hope Ilan Grapel will be released.” She added: “we can’t see any reason for taking security measures against him.”
Reports talked about the American Defense Minister, Lion Panetta’s interference in Grapel release, during his last visit to Egypt on October; however he denied the news in a press conference in Cairo.
