Muammar Qaddafi has reportedly been killed in his hometown of Sirte
Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi died of wounds suffered in his capture near his hometown of Sirte on Thursday, a senior NTC military official said.
Reports added that Gaddafi’s
bodywill be transferred to Misurata and will be broadcasted on TV channels in the coming few hours.
Libyan rebels have announced the capture of Muammar Gaddafi after his hometown was falling on Thursday, after they managed to enter the last neighborhood in Sirte, which became under the rebels control, the NTC has announced that Gaddafi was captured and he was wounded in his legs, where other reports say that he was killed.
A security committee Official in Tripoli, Khalid Al-Alaqi, quoted the NATO, saying that Gaddafi was killed, after he was badly wounded in an air strike that targeted his convoy while it was in the way to Misurata, west of Sirte. Mutasim bellah is believed to be one of its passengers. It was reported that the convoy was targeted twice by the NATO.
On the other hand, one of the Libyan fighters in Misurata, has called a local radio and claimed that he has Gaddafi’s body in the car with him.
One field commanders claimed that he has seen Gaddafi badly wounded, but he was still breathing by then, and was wearing green clothes and a turban of the same color. However nothing is still confirmed regarding his death.
Rebels have also announced that they have found the dead body of the Libyan defense minister, Abu Baker Younis, in Sirte Hospital.
In Sirte, medics said the defence minister in Kadhafi's ousted regime, Abu Bakr Yunis, had been killed in the final battle for the strongman's hometown.
Libyan TV channel "Libya lil Ahrar" also said that he was in custody.
His body was identified at the field hospital where it was brought in a pick-up truck on Thursday, Dr Abdu Rauf told AFP.NATO said it cannot confirm the reports..
Officials in the Transitional National Assembly have also announced that they have also arressted some leaders in Gaddafi’s regime, in Sirte, including Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Education, and one of Mutasim Gaddafi’s advisors.
Fighters rose the Libyan new temporary national flag over the center of Sirte after they have completely took control of the city.
