Fort Hodd was the scene of the 2009 massacre
U.S. police have arrested a soldier in the army after he was found in possession of bomb-making materials in a small motel near Fort Hood in Texas. Federal investigator Erik Vasys said
that the soldier named Jason Nasser Abdo was absent without leave from his base in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and had previously been detained in the prison in the city of Killeen near Fort Hood, after being accused of another crime related to the possession of child pornography.
Spokesman for the military base, Bob Jenkins, said that the 21 year-old soldier had disappeared from Fort Campbell on the weekend of the 4th July.
Officer Vasys did not reveal what charges Nasser was facing, and he denied knowledge of the arrest of other soldiers. He added that Nasser was arrested last Wednesday after an anonymous tip-off that he had firearms and gunpowder in his motel room in Killeen, which could be used in bombs.
The U.S. military had appointed Nasser as an intelligence agent for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but the appointment was canceled after Nasser was accused of being in possession of child pornography in Kentucky, whereby the U.S. army decided to ban him from participating in any of its wars. Fort Hood saw a horrific massacre in 2009 when a psychiatrist soldier who was Muslim opened fire inside the base killing 13 people and wounding 32 others. The doctor was arrested, and remains in jail awaiting his sentencing in the year 2012.
